What is the difference between the Quick-Start Clinic and the Walking Tours?

Nordic walking technique is taught in the Quick-Start Clinics. If you have never experienced Nordic walking, this is the ideal experience to start with. If you have tried Nordic walking before, a Walking Tour is the experience for you. You are welcome to take a Nordic walking tour with no experience, but keep in mind the focus of the tour is not on learning the technique but exploring Canmore on foot.

Is there a minimum age?

The minimum age is 14 for all Nordic walking experiences.

What is the maximum group size?

Normally, the maximum group size is 10. Larger groups may be accommodated by calling to discuss numbers and ability levels.

What equipment is provided?

Urban Poles, Canada’s leading brand of Nordic walking poles are provided for all experiences. They are different from other Nordic walking equipment and totally different from hiking or trekking poles. Icers or snowshoes are provided for winter conditions.

What should I wear (spring, summer, fall)?

Wear a T-shirt & tights/hiking or athletic pants. Be sure to bring a warm extra layer & rain jacket, just in case.

Running shoes are fine while light trail or hiking shoes provide even more support and are ideal. Please no flip-flops or sandals.

Leave purses at home. A small backpack is a great bring-along.

Bring water, a hat, sunglasses, sunscreen, insect repellant and don't forget your camera!

What should I wear (winter)?

Wear a long sleeve t-shirt/thermal underwear top plus 1 or 2 layers (i.e.: light fleece top, heavier fleece top) & a wind/waterproof shell.

Wear winter boots or lined hiking boots. Icers which go over your footwear to prevent slipping, are provided.

Leave purses at home. A small backpack is a great bring-along.

Bring water, gloves/mitts, a hat/headband, scarf/buff/neck warmer, tissues/handkerchief, sunglasses and don't forget your camera!

What Level of Fitness is Required?

To ensure maximum enjoyment, the ability to walk non-stop for an hour is recommended. Don’t worry about being able to keep up, tactics will be used to ensure people walk at their comfortable pace but the group stays together.
